Construction of the estate began in 1919, and what was meant to be a sipmle building project for a summer home, quickly turned into a lobor of love for the insatiable Hearst. The project was also a fitting tribute to the patience and perseverance of his talented building partner, San Francisco architect Julia Morgan. Julia Morgan not only designed each of the structures on the estate but she also designed the water supply and electrical supply. Using a gravity based water delivery system that transports water from artesian wells in the pine mountains and using a remote power plant to supply electricity. Hearst Castle is definitely something everyone should see.
