This is my first (fashion) project. It was made in mid-September. It’s published here. Description of the Theme was: My Reuse Design. I’ve decided it to be something authentic for Serbia, and so my work was created …
Ethno is a Greek word, which means people, and it refers to the nation, ethnicity or national customs. Ethno also includes a description of life, work, customs, culture and characteristics of individual nations, tribes or ethnic groups. It became popular thanks to international trade and it reviews craft skills from past and distant places.
Ethnic motives are eternal inspiration for many famous designers. They were used in many fashion shows by designers such as Jean-Paul Gautier, John Galliano, Giorgio Armani, Anna Sui, Oscar de la Renta, Jeanne Paquin, Jeanne Lanvin and many others.
Contemporary style tailors squeeze different motives to create something new, whether we are talking about African tribes with their ivory ornaments, Native Americans with diverse and colorful feathers, or the European nations with the beginnings of art clothing. The goal is to make original, unique and modern look.
National costumeshave over the century long tradition which is still expanding every day.Ethno motif is refreshing today’s fashion and separating it from usual. Styles from the begining of the last century are coming back in a new light. Catwalks worldwide are being influenced by the ethnic culture. I live in a country that is rich in ethnic tradition and culture, but unfortunately, due to the economic crisis, lack of conditions and fashiontrends following, ethnic motive is not sufficiently utilized here. So, I tried to create a compound of tradition and modern.
For the photo shooting I chose an authentic archeological park called Lazar Town, place of big importance for medieval town Krusevac. It was built by prince Lazar in 1371. and it is symbol of tradition and Serbian culture.I’ve revived traditional folk costume with everyday clothes. Authentic ethnic jewelry fitted perfectly with high heels. The richness of Serbian ethnic culture is specific because of the impact of other nations. Therefore, the Turkish Salwar(baggy pants), also took a place in this project, embedded with the modern shoes.
Serbian costumes are known for the variety of textures and embroidery. The jelek is a waistcoat made from wool or velvet and it is sleeveless and wide opened in the chest area so that the shirtembroidery can be visible. It is decorated withgold-coloredneedlework of different patterns.
What to say in the end, except that the newly created ethnic twist can’t be described in words. The pictures will speak for themselves, and the original outfits will write a new history and tradition.
Hvala punoooo Bilji i Lenki, mojim drugaricama i divnim modelima, Jovani M. i Jovani S. i fotografu Dejanu!!
